| Secret 1 - Will the furniture fit my room? |
 |
Best is to measure your living room carefully and ideally, produce a rough sketch of the layout, including doors, windows etc.(If you wish, our sales consultants will be pleased to help you draw out your room and furniture on our room planner, to help work out what best fits your needs).
There are many possible sofa combinations. The most popular currently is a 3 seater & 2 seater sofa set. This gives the same amount of seats and take up less space than a traditional 3-Seater & 2-Seater sofa set. This gives the same amount of seats and take up less space than a traditional 3 Seater and two chairs. Corner groups are increasingly popular and it is surprising how space saving they can be. There are lots of different combinations possible. Most important is whatever works best for YOUR living room! One thing to watch is not to order too many sofa pieces. Too many items in a room can make the room smaller than it is. You can always buy more later. |

| Secret 2-Interior Decorating Secrets |
 |
| If you want an eclectic look, you should mix different styles and colours with several accessories, this will give a lovely warm feel to your living room. For a designer look, it is typically the opposite approach. Best is to keep the room relatively uncluttered and normally minimise the colour palette to about two or three colours. Always important is detail, with ideally the legs of the coffee table coordinating with the legs of the sofa etc. |

| Secret 3 - Sofa quality? |
 |
A fairly basic test – you lift the sofa from one of the bottom edges to feel the weight of it. In general, the heavier it is, the better the quality- as there is more wood used in the frame construction.
For the quality of the fabric, the key is wear ability. Knowledgeable salespeople should be able to tell you about the wearability of different types of fabric and its ‘rub test’ soore.
When it comes to the sofa’s spring system, sinuous wire or S-type springs are the standard. You should feel the springs when you push down on the sofa.
At Cost Plus sofas, our head of buying has a background of over 20 years experience in the furniture industry. We will not buy from any worldwide factory before we fully inspect them- whether in Italy, the U.K., South Africa or China. |

| Secret 4 - Leather Quality? |
 |
A surge in efficient manufacturing processes have brought down the cost of leather. It is a surprisingly practical material. Leather now adoms sofas at prices once reserved for vinyl look-a-likes.
Leathers are graded by the size, location, and the severity of the natural a blemishes that are a part of all hides. There is no uniform grading system between the thousands of sofa manufacturers worldwide. This means that one manufacturer’s category 5 can be another supplier’s category 5000 and so forth. The most practical test is a simple one. It is to feel the quality of the leather between your fingers. The more soft and buttery it feels, the higher the quality.
Here is a detailed explanation of leather types:
Aniline leather is soaked in aniline dye. It does not have other finishes applied. This leather is superbly soft. Most aniline leathers have visible markings, such as wrinkles and scars. These leathers will develop a beautiful lustrous patina with time, and are best suited to luxury use.
Semi-aniline leathers have a small amount of pigment, giving them slightly better protection against stains and fading.
Pigmented leathers are the most popular due to their high protection compared to other leather. Although this gives a slightly stiffer feel, they have more uniformity of colour and provide the test resistance to fading, scratching and staining. In other words, the ideal choice for rough-and-tumble family use. |
